The Apostle Paul suggests in Philippians 3:14 to "forget what lies behind and reach forward to what lies ahead." While that is certainly good advice, I do believe there are lessons we can and must learn from our mistakes. As Dr. John C. Maxwell, a pastor, author, and motivational speaker has said, "Do not let your mistakes become roadblocks, make them building blocks."
So, as you and I begin this New Year, I trust that you will ask the LORD to show you the lessons you need to learn from the mistakes you made this past year, so that you will not repeat them.
Furthermore, I encourage you to take time this month to count your many blessings. Thank God for your health. Thank God for your home. Thank God for your family; your job; your church; and for the salvation that has come to you through your faith in Jesus Christ.
I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to what God is going to do in 2014.
Happy New Year,
Mark E. Sickling
